This plateau is a vast flat dorsal with gentle ridges, at an altitude of 1,150m, extending northwards from the Coscerno massif. The large expanse is occupied by a natural pasture, hayfields, medicinal herb and sainfoin meadows and, until a few years ago, a number of wheat plots. Sheep, goats, cattle and horses graze there in summer. The quaint stone huts scattered here and there on the plateau once served as summer accommodation for the breeders and farmers of Vallo di Nera and Ponte. The grassy expanse is interrupted here and there by groves of turkey oak, beech, hop-hornbeam. Until the 1970s the northern edge of the Immagine Plateau was home to a couple of mountain-dwellers. The two stone buildings, built by the father of the groom towards the end of the last century, witnessed their seventy years of hard work. The old lady would tell of her grandfather, from Castel S. Felice, who had to battle with the bear to collect the apples and pears, in the wild and beautiful area of woody ravines of Casa Montecastello. At one time the wolf also threatened the domestic animals in these areas.
